Pattern Mania!

I’ve always wanted to make sewing patterns, and right around the time that my sewing machine died the urge really overwhelmed me. I started buying sewing patterns ( I LOVE Keykalou!) and fantasizing about making some. I started making my own, beginning with the Pocket Parcel, and now I’ve got a fantastic new pattern on the horizon!

For those of you who like my Mini Wallets, rejoice! I’ve made it into a super quick and easy sewing pattern that uses minimal fabric! BEHOLD!

In less than an hour you can make your own convenient and adorable Mini Wallet! There are more than 16 photos for this 16 step project. I’ve also included some stitch guides so that even beginners can create really clean corners and straight seams! So cute!

Here’s another look at what’s going on with some fantastic indie fabric designers. Whether printed at home, through Spoonflower, or at an actual fabric mill, they are all totally original, non-commercial, and feature incredibly moving designs. Enjoy!

The first, and at the top of my shortest short list is Yellow Scallops by Wonderfluff. (I ordered it yesterday and I can’t wait for it to arrive!)

This fabric just hits all the right notes for me. These are extreme scallops. Punk scallops. I love mix of mild yellow and retro POP yellow. And the hand drawn lines make me swoon. All of the elements just add up to create a gentle skip to a cracked-out-fantasy-land-slash-circus. Mhm! I have a feeling I’m going to be ordering a whole lot more of this stuff.

Wonderfluff has tons more fresh/sweet/quirky fabric designs like Aqua Daisies. It’s sort of a nod to seventies floral prints, but is so crisp and updated. It’s definitely on my short list.

In my wanderings I also found this very pretty, sort of gothy cherry blossom print, at Alice Caroline Supply’s. I love the contrast. I also like that she has used that contrast to take a really traditional floal print and turn it into something hip and funky but still very, very pretty. Love it.

My last floral print for the day is actually not a floral- it’s arboreal. Take a look at Polka Trees by Olive Manna. It’s listed as a fat quarter set, and they are just so romantic together. I like this print because it’s very clean and modern, but so soft and pretty and romantic at the same time.

Please, go check out these fantastic designers and support indie fabric! Next time I’ll be taking a look at some of what I call “MonoFabric”, (Mono means “thing” in Japanese) which is basically fabric with cute stuff printed on it. Expect to see cute birds, dancing carrots, dogs, bikes, and other miscellaneous representations.

This is a job with many ups and many downs, let me tell you, but one of the ups is getting to traipse around town in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week. This morning Eric and I had to go to the Farmer’s Market on very official business, which meant a hearty breakfast at Canter’s and then an obligatory romp through my favorite shops. Usually I’m on the hunt for cute stuff- good color combinations, scallopped and polka dotted things, etc. But today somehow I managed to hunt out the most incredible scents. Fresh donuts, ripe cherries, almond butter, hot coffee, and a million pastry scents all rolled into one gorgeous olfactory journey. YUM! I swear I was on a smell-high.

The best part, though, was a quick sojourn into Anthropologie where I found my new hand cream. Uh huh. I’ve used L’Occitane’s Rose Velvet Cream for a long time, but I found something that I might like even better! It’s called Sugared Pastille from Lollia. Uh huh. I promise the packaging doesn’t lie- this stuff is just as heavenly on your hands as it looks! Behold!

I also picked up a Miel et Citron candle at L’Occitane (partly to apologize for cheating with my hand cream), which I’ve been having dreams about lately. I seriously go crazy for that stuff. I’ve been taking obscenely long whiffs of my honey soap ever since I used up the last candle. Oooh, and I used my scalloped circle punch to make a dozen scented disks out of the packaging! I think I’ll use those for honey scented envelope seals.

Oh yes, and I’ve got a new tape up in the shop today! Tiny Apricot Flowers. So cute.
