A Day in the Life of a Baby Spider.

posted on Jun 13, 2011

I’m not all that fond of spiders, especially when they’re in the house, but on Friday I stumbled upon something that almost made me change my mind.  I was watering my plants when I noticed something very un-water-like moving from below a pot.  It was sort of like very slow, twinkling water sprinkles.  When I looked more closely I discovered that it wasn’t water, it was a colony of baby spiders!  The tiny little guys were scrambling away from the water, spinning webs as fast as they could.  If I can video tape this tomorrow I will.

Look at the tiny little guys scramble from the water!  I only wish I had been there to see them hatch!  Did they come out spinning webs, I wonder?  Just to give you an idea of their size, that  pot is about 5 inches tall.  So that makes the spiders maybe a millimeter tall?  No, I think they’re smaller.

When I checked on them after lunch they were busily spinning webs and practicing climbing.  Like a little baby spider kindergarten.

Here they are at 4 pm, all snuggled down for an afternoon nap.  Unfortunately for them I have a problem leaving adorable sleeping animals alone, so I blew on them and they went scrambling as fast as they could.  Too cute!  They’re back in their ball, last time I checked.  Yay baby spiders!

My sense of structure is totally out of whack now that my only in-house-co-worker is out of the house all day.  This has created some interesting questions for myself, and I realized that this transition is going to be more complicated than I had anticipated.  I’ve decided to turn to my out-of-house “co-workers” and web friends for some conversation about life.

First topic:  When do you know that you’re a grown up?

Some people really seem like grownups.  I’m not sure what it looks like from the outside, but I really do not feel like one.  I’m 28 years old, so technically speaking, I’m an adult.  I was wondering if my friends and readers ever had an “aha!” moment when they really felt like grown ups.  Is it having kids?  Does that make you a grown up?  Buying a house?  What makes you a grown up?  When did you know for sure that you were a grown up?

Crafty Wonderland Booth Photos!

posted on Jun 8, 2011

I realize that during my month-long hiatus from blogging I neglected to share many, many things with you all, including my latest booth photos!  What a bad blogger I’ve been.

The Spring Crafty Wonderland was soo nice because I got a bigger booth this time around, so I had a place for everything! At the holiday show my booth was a little baby booth, which really only fit my sewing notions, so it was really nice to create a Polly Danger mega-booth!  As always, though, there are many, many things I want to switch for my next show.

Since it was a Spring show, I went with a garden theme.  Lots of flower pots and garden furniture ^=^.

One of my favorite things was the new collection of clutches.  I just want to keep making them and making them and making them.  But firstly I should probably post a few to the shop!

Another new addition to the booth were my hankie pillows.  These came out so cute that I think I’ll have to make more.  A customer suggested pillow covers, which I think sounds like a great idea, especially since they’re easier to store in my tiny office! Pillow covers, here I come!

Rings, anyone?  I let Eric do some merchandising, and he created this wonderfully overflowing cabinet of jewelry, which I just love!  Way to go, Eric!

Also new to the booth were my fabric covered button badges.  I just can’t find enough ways to use fabrics I love!  You can purchase these little cuties at the Crafty Wonderland Shop in Portland, and at the Youngblood Gallery in Atlanta!

One of the highlights of the show was when my last Facebook Contest winner arrived to claim her prize.  Meeting customers is always a supreme joy, but it’s especially wonderful when I’ve seen what they made with my notions, and the cherry on top is when I want to be friends with them because they’re so darn sweet!  Thanks, Stacy for the cherry on top!  *Note:  We’re now accepting bias tape projects for a June Facebook Contest!  Projects using ANY bias tape are welcome!

Pup in a Chariot, and Other News

I thought I’d celebrate this lovely Tuesday with some pictures of the absolute cutest thing ever.

This weekend Eric and I were gifted a darling red wagon and we had an immediate use for it; The aging Yellow Beans no longer has to use his tired legs to get around the park!  He’s just about 14 years old now, and although he insists on going to the park with us every day, it’s become quite apparent that he’s a senior.  And so, fluffy pillows and blankies in place, the baby seal made his inaugural tour around the park, to great success! He loved it!  We stopped a few times to let him walk, and then when he looked tired we put him back in.  This pimp look on his face is for reals.  He really feels like a champion getting pulled around by his people.

I just can’t get over how cute this is.  It’s so helpful for me and Eric, too, because we no longer have to walk at a snail’s pace, and we can walk much farther if we want to.  Next stop is the B Street Trail!

And in other news, Eric started a brand new job yesterday!  Like, a jobby job.  In an office.  With coworkers and a water cooler.  It’s going to be quite a transition for the both of us.  I’m used to getting interrupted five times a day with requests to watch You Tube videos of people singing the My Little Pony theme song and junk like that.  Needless to say, I feel a bit lonely without my hubby.  I mean, we’ve both been working from home for two years now.  Sigh.

On the plus side, we now get up at 5 am (wait, that’s not the plus part), and since Eric leaves at 6:30 (gasp!), my coffee has kicked in by 6 am, leaving me plenty of time for blogging before my work day starts!  This means blog posts whenever I feel like it!!  Posts about cashmere yarn sprinkled with German glass glitter?  No problem!  Posts about the f-ing amazing vintage table cloth I just bought at Goodwill?  No problem!  Posts about finding and destroying slugs in my baby garden?  NO PROBLEM.  I love it.

And now, a last look at a baby seal in a chariot- have a super day!

Quilt Envy: Pennington’s Quilts

posted on Jun 5, 2011

Firstly- yes, I have been shamefully absent from the blogosphere for (gasp) over a month!  Running a handmade business means sewing, ironing, and shipping like crazy!  I have many, many things to share, but for today I really just HAD to tell you about the lovely Brooke, of Pennington’s Quilts and her amazing Colorful Modern Baby Quilt quilt using my striped yellow bias tape.  The colors are vibrant, calming, and modern all at once and the stitching is just so much fun.  I also love that this is a baby quilt.  Lucky kid, whoever gets this fresh heirloom!

I’ll also be posting Brooke’s quilt to this month’s Polly Danger Facebook Contest, so make sure to “like” it!  Read my June newsletter to find out more about the latest Facebook Contest!

Crafty Wonderland Spring Show!!

posted on Apr 20, 2011

Less than 3 weeks left for me to prep everything for the Crafty Wonderland Super Colossal Spring Show!  My twisty ankle is almost healed, but I think I’ll spend another day ironing from the sofa just to be safe.  So many goodies to make!

Booth # 213, y’all!

Well, you might have noticed that the Facebook Contest entries have not gone up as planned.  We had a couple of hiccups, one of which was me falling down the stairs and spending the day in bed.  The other hiccup is a mild techno-yucky, which should get fixed soon.  So keep your peepers posted, we’ll put up the awesome contest entries asap!!  PLUS, we may have another contest to announce . . .

As for my injuries-  I’ve got boo-boos all over,  but nothing serious, thank goodness.  I’ll just be laying around with my ankle in the air for a while, which will definitely drive me crazy.  But better a twisted ankle and a sore back than any breaks or bumps on my noggin!
